7. Pacific Rim
Guillermo Del Toro has a passion for science fiction - more specifically Japanese Anime - and Pacific Rim is largely 2 hours of towering mechs beating the everlasting crap out of each other solely to satisfy that inner child within us. Even its human stories featuring fantastic comedic timing from Ron Perlman and Charlie Day are actually entertaining, unlike another certain franchise about beloved robots that is widely recognized as a tainting steaming pile of dung. The movie is a love letter to Japanese culture but most importantly its just a damn good time at the theater and exemplifies everything a summer blockbuster should be. Even celebrities such as legendary video game director Hideo Kojima have poured their praise into the film via social media.
