2. Progression Of Peter's Journey
The road for Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man was an emotional one mostly, with Peter going through the loss of his parents abandoning him, to the death of Uncle Ben, thus inspiring him to become Spider-Man to fight the nature of evil in the name of justice. And as Spider-Man, he devotes his time outside of high school and his relationship with Gwen Stacy to do what he believes is best. At the end, with the death of Gwen's father, Captain George Stacy of the New York City police force, he promises him to stay away from Gwen in order to protect her from his vendettas and their eventual outcomes. But he knows deep inside of himself that he can't keep that promise, and by TASM2 we know he caves in and goes back to Gwen. That basically sums up the first film's premise, with the second entry looking to move things forward at a steady pace with Peter's journey. It's abundantly clear
that TASM2 will take Peter down a darker road than before, with the promise of destruction and the risk of probable death. The journey will move to a stage that Peter would never in a million years think he'd ever grow accustomed to, with the possibility of Gwen getting caught in the crossfire. The probability of that event would easily trigger depression and oppression within Peter, propelling his journey to even darker places. Of course the death of Gwen Stacy is one of the most iconic moments in Spider-Man's coveted history, and the adaptation of her death has been teased time and time again via production photos, all pointing to a repeat of that very same moment with Gwen dying in Peter's arms. With TASM2, there's this epic sense of scale involving all the big and little pieces and the move set available for those pieces to make. No matter what the move, the journey of Peter Parker as Spider-Man will be affected. The first film did a grand job at setting up the board, with the newest entry initiating the movement of the pieces. And like a game of chess, where the moves are nearly unlimited and possibilities endless, it could result in a sudden check for Peter and his choices as Spider-Man, or a checkmate on something important and valuable in his life.
