5. Emma Stone

Back during the Sam Raimi days, I appreciated Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson. I believed she was wonderful and a great emotional anchor for Tobey Maguire's version of Peter to latch onto in the first two Spider Man film... until Spiderman 3, where she became a jealous and selfish bitch and lost all emotional ties at the beginning of the second act. And by the end, it wasn't just the character of Mary Jane Watson that felt unjust and off-put, but the credibility of Kirsten Dunst along with it. Right when it was announced that it was Gwen Stacy, not Mary Jane Watson, who would showcase the reboot this time around, my impressions shifted to a curious position, and when Emma Stone was cast as Peter Parker's first true love, I was ecstatic. Over the past several years, I've come to see Emma Stone as the leading young actress in Hollywood. Her talents are just about as beautiful as her looks, and she's absolutely sexy, smart, and charismatic. Her performance in The Amazing Spider-Man immediately overshadowed Bryce Dallas Howard's brief and pointless portrayal in Spider-Man 3. And now Emma Stone is being given a second outing to lay back and steal the show. With Emma returning to carry out the story of Gwen Stacy, it gives TASM2 that additional edge of refinement. Emma sold the first film just by her perfect grace and talent, and she'll be now different in TASM2. It'll be interesting to see he story continue with Peter Parker, with Peter promising to her late father that he would stay away in order to keep her safe outside of his dangerous life, but we all know he has to break that promise. It'll be something to keep on eye out for in the film, that tension of Peter firmly placed in the role of Spider Man and Gwen patiently playing his love interest. And with Shailene Woodley no longer in the production or final film, it leaves room for both characters to experiment, and for Emma Stone to bring more her passionate glory to the silver screen.
