The Amazing Spider-Man 3 - 10 Things You Need To Know
3. Marc Webb Wants J.K. Simmons To Play J. Jonah Jameson
Strange, but apparently true: director Marc Webb has mentioned on a number of occassions that he would like to see J.K. Simmons, who played grumpy Spider-Man-hating news editor J. Johan Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, to reprise his role in future installments. This is something of a weird idea, of course, given that the franchises are worlds apart. But hey, they did it with Judi Dench and "M" when they rebooted James Bond, right? Here's what Webb said on the matter:
"It was more easy to accept a new Spider-Man than someone who could outdo J.K. Simmons in that role. He is so iconic. Thats something weve really talked about. Obviously I love that character because he poses such an interesting dilemma for Spider-Man. The answer is I dont know, but I think you can expect to see him in the future.
Which, of course, worked wonders - and nobody really questioned it, either, because it just seemed "right." The reasoning behind this is plainly apparent, of course: Simmons was perfectly cast as Jameson, and it's hard to imagine another actor - no matter how talented - doing better in the role. Jameson feels like the part that J.K. Simmons was born to play. And let's face it... he'd be welcomed back to the Spidey franchise with open arms.
