The Avengers Film: 5 Reasons Why Hawkeye Wasn't Well Received

5. His Fighting Lacks Passion

Hawkeye acts like Bourne in The Avengers, which is an odd reference knowing that he would later be cast as the next Bourne action star, to replace Matt Damon. In an interview with Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki, the British actor talks about Jeremy Renner actually being skilled with the props, saying that most actors say they are and in all actuality are pretty pathetic. Renner no doubt shows control of his character, but it's that emotionless control that is so troubling. Any kill-shot or superhero that needs slow-motion to make the action work is not a very effective stage character. Captain America can hold a whole frame for thirty-seconds, wiping out monsters behind, in front, and to the side of him with grace. Hawkeye has to be a decent distance away, and fast-paced action, as a result, is not much part of his character. There is a certain epic quality to the precise kill-shots, but they can definitely get old very fast, (See Ridley Scott's Robin Hood).
