The Avengers Film: 5 Reasons Why Hawkeye Wasn't Well Received

4. He Doesn't Have A Single Witty Line In The Movie

Hawkeye, by definition of his character, is not much of a jokester. A trained assassin, marksman, and now part of a Loki induced, meth-like trance, he doesn't have much time for the giggles. He is mainly a plot point in the movie, a pawn working for Loki, though he acts more like a queen, being so technically and physically versatile. One of his jobs is to take siege of The Avenger's vessel, to spark Bruce Banner into a rage of fury. Even before he is controlled by Loki, he seems to be a quiet, low-key kind of hero. He's guarding the tesseract and is perched up in a darkly-lit scaffold, looking down at people. He comes down to meet with Nick Fury and has in no way a child's enigma, being self-assured and maybe a little cocky. But he didn't show up in The Avengers with a bang and a 'let's get em' kind of attitude: It just isn't his character.
