It's been a while since we've seen James Franco in a big movie, and since turning 40, it sounds like he's being a little more picky with the projects he takes on. The actor never really got the chance to show Harry Osborn's crazy side in the Spider-Man movies, but there was a darkness there which has seen his name occasionally come up when talk of casting The Joker arises.

There are a tonne of examples in Franco's filmography of roles which have something in common a character like The Joker, and a handful, in particular (The Interview and The Disaster Artist, for example), which prove he could do the Clown Prince of Crime justice.

Franco also happens to have the advantage of having worked with Matt Reeves on Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and that collaboration was definitely memorable. Reteaming for The Batman could lead to something really special with this take on the iconic baddie, and would likely win the support of fans.

The actor clearly has an interest in unique comic book movie roles after developing Multiple Man for Fox, so it may not take much to bring him into the DCEU.
