The Batman: 10 Huge Rumours That Would Change Everything
7. Jim Gordon Won't Be The Police Commissioner Straight Away
One of Gotham's most important supporting characters, and one of Batman's most trusted allies, is Jim Gordon. After being portrayed by Gary Oldman in the Dark Knight trilogy and by JK Simmons in Justice League, Matt Reeves' movie will introduce yet another version of the character in the shape of Jeffrey Wright.
Naturally, the new iteration of the character will have to separate himself from the previous movies, however it seems that Wright's Gordon will be similar to Oldman's, in that he will start off the franchise without yet having achieved the rank of Police Commissioner.
At the beginning of Christopher Nolan's trilogy, it was Gillian Loeb who was Commissioner of the Gotham Police Department before being killed by the Joker and replaced by Gordon. According to IMDb, it will be a character by the name of Pete Savage who sits in the Commissioner's chair in 2021. That said. it's hard to imagine it won't be Gordon by the end of the trilogy, if not the first movie.
Also according to IMDb's cast list for The Batman, Jimmy Star is listed as 'Funeral Mourner'. Could this be Commissioner Savage's funeral before Gordon takes the position? This could be the direction the story goes, but it may be a bit too similar to the Dark Knight trilogy if so.
