The Batman: 10 Latest Developments You Need To Know
2. Early Batman Comics Inspired The Film
In addition to noir movies and Hitchcockian influences, The Batman was inspired by the hero's early comic outings, many of which were traditional detective stories.
Matt Reeves is poring over the original DC Comics source material in search of elements to include, but has assured fans the film will "personal" and relevant to modern times.
He told Variety...
“I could imagine the stories being noir, like, heavily point-of-view driven. The original stories in the early days were detective stories....I can tell you this: we are looking into all of those [comic arcs], and I’m also looking into ways it feels personal.
"The thing that’s interesting is the way in which you connect to these stories. I think I’ll draw inspiration from these stories, but I want it to be rooted in something that feels not personal to me but relevant to the time.”
The exciting thing about Reeves's approach is that Batman's role as the DC universe's greatest detective has been largely overlooked in the movies. Even in the acclaimed Nolanverse trilogy it was pretty much glazed over.
Focusing on this angle could really differentiate The Batman and make it the closest movie we have to Bob Kane and Bill Finger's original comic book creation.
