The Batman: 10 Perfect Roles Mahershala Ali Could Play

5. Martin Hawkins Or Amadeus Arkham

After a couple who have a decent shot of getting in with or without Mahershala Ali, we’re back to a bit of a wildcard. Not only one, but two, as Ali could probably pull off both sides of this story.

Martin Hawkins is little more than a footnote in the Batman canon, but has huge links to Arkham Asylum, a setting which has been severely under-utilised on the big screen.

Hawkins was a serial killer who targeted women, and ended up being sent to Arkham Asylum. When he escaped, he targeted the Asylum’s founder, Amadeus Arkham.

In a grisly chain of events which will surely be edited if Hawkins is adapted, he killed Amadeus’ wife, then raped, killed and decapitated his daughter, stuffing her head in a dollhouse. The DCEU can go dark, and Joker and Birds Of Prey have R ratings, but that still seems a little much.

This is the catalyst to Amadeus’ descent into madness, but not before Hawkins is captured and electrocuted to death at Amadeus’ hands, one year to the day after the murders.

It would be fun to see Ali go full villain as Hawkins, or more manic as Amadeus. He’s got the range for both.
