The Batman: 15 Details You Missed The First Time

7. The Shakespeare Bust In Wayne Manor

The Batman Riddler
Warner Bros.

Moments before Alfred is bombed by the Riddler, keep an eye on the left-hand side of the screen and you'll see a bust of William Shakespeare.

This might seem like an ordinary enough ornament for a well-off Englishman to have in his quarters, but it's actually a sly Easter egg nodding to Batman's prior history in the moving pictures.

The 1960s Adam West-starring Batman series prominently featured a very similar bronze Shakespeare bust which Bruce Wayne used to conceal the trigger for the Batcave.

Upon lifting the Bard's head he could press a button which would pull back a bookshelf facade and reveal the two poles allowing him and Robin to slide into the Batcave.

Though the '60s Batman might seem quaint by modern standards, it's neat to see a director as forward-thinking as Reeves show some respect to what came before.
