The Batman: Every Character Confirmed So Far (And 5 Rumoured Ones)
3. Alfred Pennyworth (Confirmed)
Like any Batman movie needs the Caped Crusader, Bruce Wayne needs his butler and father figure, Alfred. The character has been given the Aunt May treatment over the last three movie iterations, getting younger and younger each time. From Michael Caine, to Jeremy Irons, and now Andy Serkis.
The man behind Gollum, Supreme Leader Snoke, and Caesar in Matt Reeves' Planet of the Apes trilogy will lend a grittier, tougher, more youthful tone to Alfred. Similar Sean Pertwee's iteration in Gotham.
With a younger Alfred at his disposal, Matt Reeves could look to focus on, and develop the side of Alfred we have rarely seen on the big screen, namely the character's past as a member of the British Guard and MI-5. Not in a flashback sort of sense, but rather seeing the butler showcase the skills he picked up in his youth.
Chances are we could see Alfred do more than just serve Bruce Wayne his breakfast, and actually get his hands dirty. This ties in to Robert Pattinson playing a younger, more inexperienced Batman, who will likely rely on Alfred a lot more than previous versions of the character.
