The Batman Movie Review: 8 Ups & 2 Downs
2. The AWESOME Action Sequences
It's worth stating upfront that The Batman's action sequences are considerably more understated than the epic, operatic ones witnessed in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Saga, and that's absolutely by design.
Taking place as it does in just Batman's second year "on the job," his missions and their action-packed outcomes are decidedly more modest, yet nevertheless outstandingly choreographed and staged in their own right.
The various fight scenes convincingly establish Batman as a physical threat but also a hero who isn't beyond making mistakes.
The easy highlight, however, is undeniably a face-melting mid-film car chase between Bats in his Batmobile and The Penguin, as has been understandably focused on in trailers.
It's a magnificent, electrifying sequence that deploys VFX only when necessary, often milking the simple thrill of a high-speed pursuit for every drop it's worth.
