The Batman Movie Review: 8 Ups & 2 Downs

Downs...

2. It's Definitely Too Long

The Batman Catwoman
Warner Bros.

The Batman clocks in at a beefy 176 minutes, making it the longest Batman film to date by a fair margin, beating out The Dark Knight Rises by more than 10 minutes.

And while this extended runtime certainly grants Reeves latitude to really get down in the weeds and let scenes breathe, all things considered it's probably fair to say the film could've been given a few nips and tucks without suffering much.

The third act in particular, which seems like it's set to wrap up three or four times before it actually does, might've benefitted from a little more restraint.

And while the three hours pass quickly enough on an initial sit, it ultimately might make committing to a rewatch feel like a bit of an ask, especially for audiences who aren't totally ecstatic about the film already.

Credit to Warner Bros. for at least letting Reeves paint on such a large canvas, even if some trims in the edit bay wouldn't have gone amiss.
