The Batman Review: 7 Ups & 2 Downs
Ups...
7. You’ll Want To Rewatch It ASAP
One of the biggest compliments you could give the film is that it's so re-watchable.
It's a testament to how well Reeves lays the table for Bruce's moody characterisation and motivations that you'll want to fire it up again immediately and watch those earlier set-up scenes all over again. The similarities and interplay between the main hero and villain (The Riddler) are also incredible engaging and worth revisiting.
This isn't one of those black and white 'good vs. evil' tales at all. Yes, Batman is obviously the "goodie" of the piece, but even he has a darkness to him that haunts certain parts of the story. That's escalated whenever Riddler, or any of the other "baddies" leap into view. It's all multi-layered and so well executed.
The near three-hour run time isn't even exhausting. It's true that certain movie-goers will wonder why the opening third is slower, and yet everything is well-paced enough to make repeat viewings worth your while. The Batman isn't a 'one and done' experience.
