The Batman Starts Filming: 10 Clues For What We Can Expect

2. The Villains May Not Be, Well, Villains (Yet)

Keeping the element of surprise for a movie like The Batman makes perfect sense but The Riddler, The Penguin, and Catwoman were all referred to by their non-villainous alter-egos in the recently released press release announcing that filming has begun.

That begs the question: what's the point? Anyone who cares enough to read a release like that knows who those characters are so trying to hide the fact that the Dark Knight is going to cross paths with some of his most iconic foes seems somewhat fruitless. Well, what if they're not actually villains when we meet them next year?

With the signs pointing to this being an origin story for Batman, moviegoers learning about The Penguin's rise to prominence as a Gotham City crime boss and The Riddler's fall into madness in this movie does make sense. Throw in the fact that John Turturro is playing gangster Carmine Falcone (one of Batman's earliest foes upon his return to Gotham City in the comics) and it's impossible to escape the feeling we'll delve into all these characters on screen like never before.
