The Batman Trailer Review: 7 Ups & 1 Down

4. The Grim Tone

From the trailer, it's pretty obvious that The Batman is going to be an inherently dark film. The opening sequence makes this clear from the offset as Gordon, the Gotham PD and Pattinson's Caped Crusader find themselves at a murder scene orchestrated by The Riddler and it's pretty heavy to say the least.

From the disturbing scene and mystery that it so clearly teases to the dull aesthetic and the violence that ensues within it, there's an uneasiness about the presentation of this trailer that is also quite tantalizing - an unusual blend that Batman movies almost always thrive on.

We could be looking at the grittiest Batman film yet, and if predecessors Batman and The Dark Knight are anything to go by, that should ultimately work in its favour.
