The Best Moment Of Every James Bond Film - Ranked

22. The Man With The Golden Gun: Barrell Roll

Daniel Craig Casino Royale
Eon Productions

The Man with the Golden Gun is a very dull entry in the franchise that suffers heavily from its low kill count and lack of stakes or thrills, so it's another entry where standout moments are in short supply.

The easy highlight of this one, and the only truly great scene in it is this incredible stunt, in which Bond (Roger Moore) does an amazing barrel roll over a river in a car. And yes, this was actually done for real by stuntman Loren Willert, which makes it even more jaw-dropping.

An American side-character introduced in the previous film, Sheriff JW Pepper (Clifton James), is in the car with Bond and exclaims "I never done that before!" Bond replies "Neither have I, actually." It's true that there were few prior film stunts to compare with this.

There are two reasons why this moment doesn't rank higher. Firstly, Sheriff Pepper is an awful character and any scene with him in it is always worse off. Secondly, there's a very irritating slide whistle sound effect when the car barrel rolls. That creative decision was so infuriating that a fan actually made an edit of the scene on YouTube with the sound effect removed.
