The Cloverfield Paradox Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
2. The Terrific Supporting Cast
Netflix Originals are amassing increasingly impressive casts these days, and this movie certainly isn't left wanting for talent.
In addition to Gugu Mbatha-Raw, the cast is filled out by the brilliant likes of Daniel Bruhl, Elizabeth Debicki, David Oyelowo and Zhang Ziyi, to name just a few. That's also to say nothing of a few sneaky voice cameos that you'll need to keep your ear to the ground for.
While for the most part the cast is limited by what the material gives them, it's clear that nobody's phoning things in for a lazy payday here, and everyone tries their hardest to sell the material. Even in the film's more questionable moments, they do their damnedest to keep things afloat.
Bruhl and Debicki in particular do fine work, and while nobody's got a truly deep or rich character to sink their teeth into, it's still fun to watch a cast this diverse thrown into the meat grinder together.
