The Cloverfield Paradox Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

3. Bear McCreary's Awesome Musical Score

Composer Bear McCreary returned to score The Cloverfield Paradox after scoring 10 Cloverfield Lane, and his compositions once again bring a fine-tuned, classic suspense picture sensibility to the table.

The movie's opening sequence in particular is thrillingly punctuated by McCreary's music, while throughout the rest of the movie he employs discordant jolts and breaks in his musical score to heighten the tension. It might feel jarring to some, but it's definitely effective.

His work certainly elevates those aforementioned suspense set-pieces, even if overall it's perhaps not quite as memorable as what he brought to the previous Cloverfield film.
