The Cloverfield Paradox Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
3. The Main Subplot Feels Totally Out Of Place
Though the bulk of the film takes place on-board a space station, there is a "B-plot" which unfolds back on Earth, and it feels so utterly disconnected from the main storyline that it's easy to believe it was added in re-shoots.
This subplot sadly doesn't add much to the end result other than a little more human interest perhaps, but ultimately every time we cut back to it, it's just taking time away from the far more intriguing action in space.
The fact that this subplot isn't all that effective might well be why Paramount ultimately sold the film to Netflix, especially if it really was added late in production.
