The Cloverfield Paradox: What Does The Ending Really Mean?
4. How Many Dimensions Are There?
So how many different dimensions are at play in The Cloverfield Paradox
It isn't enough to say that two universes are working against one another to compete for the same space: there are far more to consider. Both of the "main" dimensions are fundamentally presented as fairly normal, with the only differences being to trivialities in the grand scheme of things. In one Hamilton is Earth-based, in the other she's on the Station; in one Tam is the Shephard engineer, in the other she's not; in one Mundy has an arm, in the other he doesn't.
These realities do bleed together, but they go through another mangle. For instance, there's no way Mundy's animated arm reflects either of those normal realities. That's from somewhere else entirely - probably one of the more supernatural dimensions. And there's also no way Mena's reality features monsters, exploding worms or somehow being threaded with electrical wires for no reason as normal occurrences either.
The reality is probably that there are many multiple dimensions all fighting, rather than just two, which is precisely why the crew's attempt to "undo" their mistakes don't reset everything as they believe.
