The Cloverfield Paradox: What Does The Ending Really Mean?
1. So What Does "Cloverfield" Mean?
So is the naming convention that runs through all of the movies merely a coincidence?
You could understand the case of the Cloverfield monster being designated as such if there was some awareness of the Station being the epicentre of the dimensional rifts, but there's no saying that's the case, and the fact that 10 Cloverfield Lane is the address of the second film's setting definitely seems to be a coincidence.
But what if it's a rule, rather than an accident?
What if Cloverfield is a cross-over junction - a sort of stationary point in the multiverse where the rifts are drawn to open? Effectively like the idea of a Hell Mouth, but with inter-dimensional portals where the crossing point always relates to Cloverfield.
The genius of The Cloverfield Paradox is that while it offers a solution for why the monsters and aliens exist in its movie universes, it doesn't fully explain anything, and the Cloverfield conundrum remains only partially solved. And to be honest, it probably doesn't require explanation down to the most minute detail. There's appeal in its magic.
