The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
3. It Moves Away From The Haunted House Formula
Really the only ambitious thing this movie does is lean away from the haunted house setup of the two previous films, focused instead on the singular demonic possession of a man.
While demons have been done to death in cinema over the last decade-or-so, it at least allows the film to feel different from what came before, rather than simply introducing us to yet another family being terrorised by a malevolent entity in their home.
That's not to say the script does enough interesting with it, but it nevertheless gives the film a different, initially appealing flavour, even if it can't sustain that intrigue far past the opening scene.
