The Dark Knight Rises: 10 Neglected Plot Lines That Should Have Been Developed

9. Bruce's Life Inside The Pit

The Dark Knight Rises This one was one of the major criticisms the movie had, and while I didn't have that much of a problem with it I think it could've been executed in a better way. After Bane breaks Bruce's back in the most one-sided fight scene in recent years we only see Bruce laying in there for a couple of minutes, then being attended by the world's worst chiropractic and then a small training montage before he left the Pit. Bruce's broken back was a very important story arc back when it was first published. It affected him physically and mentally so much to the point in which he said that Bane "Destroyed him." On the film this could've been explored in so many ways, since (like in the comics) Bruce was completely destroyed. Let's not forget that he was in a prison that destroyed the mind by giving the prisoners hope. The movie could've explored Bruce's depression during his time in the prison, as well as his need to save Gotham from Bane's control and to reassure himself as the Dark Knight, training himself to not only leave the pit, but also to be able to fight Bane and defeat the League of Shadows. However we were left with a very basic story of him overcoming not his fears, but his injuries. Great, but somehow that's not as cool.
