2. Auto-Pilot Engaged
In this ending we still lose Batman, but not Bruce. Batman's death was necessary for the series to come to an end, but Bruce's was not. Some people believe that the ending scene with Bruce in Paris was just a dream by Alfred, or a thought, others believe it to be true. I would like to believe it, but here's an ending for those who don't: Setting: Before the bomb went off. Story: Batman attaches the bomb to the Bat-Wing, but instead of flying off to sea, he stops on a near-by roof and meets up with Catwoman. He then takes off his mask and places it inside the cockpit. He presses the auto-pilot button and watches while it drives itself away from the city. Bruce then procedes to mutter something like: "Gotham doesn't need Batman anymore." He and Selina live out the rest of their days in Gotham. The world mourns for Batman but continues with out him. In the last scene of the movie we could see Bruce training John Blake to be the next hero. Possibly an older Bruce sitting in a chair in the Batcave while watching Nightwing zip off to save the day. It would allow for us to add on our own story, and it would create a cool "Batman-Beyond" feel. Of course, this ending isn't nearly as dramatic as the one where Batman flies off, but it is smarter and more practical. Batman is extremely smart and he didn't have to die. If the auto pilot was available (which it was), he would have picked that way. Also, for this ending to work, and for me to cover all my bases, in this plot Batman would have had an extra minute or so to leave the plane and still get auto-pilot to go in time.
