1. A Death In The Family
Batman lived. Or did he? The real ending caused a lot of confusion. To some people, Alfred's Bruce-sighting was just a dream. It did have a dreamy aspect to it, didn't it? My friend even called it out as a scene from Inception. Personally, I believe that Bruce Wayne is still very much alive and well in the streets of Paris with Selina Kyle. But I would have liked to have known for sure. I wanted a definite answer. Although some of you won't agree with this ending, here it is.
Setting: Gotham City, Alfred seeing Bruce at the cafe.
Story: The Dark Knight is dead. There is no way around that. No happy ten-second scene that shows Bruce at a cafe. The Batman zipped off in the Batwing with a nuclear bomb and died for the lives of many. The world goes on to grieve as they once did for Harvey Dent. John Blake will still rappel down into the Batcave, and leave us to out imaginations, but there will be no wondering about Bruce. Catwoman will show up at Bruce's funeral, but she will disappear into the night afterwards. The Dark Knight is dead. Most people like a happy ending, one that shows Bruce alive and well, but for this series to have truly come to an end, he should have died. This ending slightly contradicts the "Auto-Pilot Engaged" idea, but they are both completely separate endings for two different groups of Batman fans. Those who liked the Batman-Beyond series would have loved to see Bruce survive in "Auto-Pilot Engaged", but those who wanted a complete series would favor this one more. I hope that these endings have intrigued you and that at least one of them is what you would have liked to see. If you liked the original ending, that's cool too. I think that it was a good way to finish a great series, but left too many questions unanswered. If you have any ideas that weren't mentioned, post them below.
