7. Michael Pitt
At first glance, Michael Pitt seems like an unassuming guy, who doesnt necessarily stand out from the crowd. Probably exactly why Michael Haneke cast him to play one of the sociopaths in disguise in the remake of his own German psychological thriller Funny Games. Beneath that calm exterior, Pitt has the ability to call forthsomething. Im not sure exactly what it is but its dark and its quite indefinable. Whatever it is, he fills performance as Paul in Funny Games with it and as the credits roll you feel like he just unceremoniously raped you in the soul. Pitts joker would be much more in keeping with what Ledger brought to the role; a bristling, unpredictable, psychotic energy that makes you realise that the Joker is actually no laughing matter.
