3. The Cops
Nolans cops are nothing short of fantastic. They arent just the best and brightest, theyre not just a bunch of overgrown thugs out to make a corrupt buck, theyre people. Some have been turned by circumstance, some by morality, and some have remained true to their very ideals, weathering the storm. And Gary Oldman and Joseph Gordon-Levitt brought it all to the table: Oldmans Commissioner Gordon struggled with the necessity of a lie to save his city, while Levitt was trying day to day to keep the faith in the Batman, and in Gotham City. In this, Nolan broke the mold and Batman tradition: cops werent just sidekicks and sideshows to the Dark Knight, they were front and center, an essential part of life in Gotham City.
