The Dark Knight Trilogy: 10 Best Villain Moments

8. "And Do You Accept This Man's Resignation?"

Just one highlight of what I think is a criminally underrated performance from Tom Hardy is Bane's rabble-rousing speech atop a Tumbler outside Gotham City Hall, exposing the lie surrounding the death of Harvey Dent. Half mad dictator drunk with power, half Shakespearean player, Bane's mocking recital of Jim Gordon's confessional is accompanied by Hans Zimmer's pounding score to great effect - on both the audience and the more disaffected citizens of Gotham. What's especially great is that it shows the handle Nolan has on the character. Bane is a devious and cunning strategist as well as a brute, and this speech manipulating the people into supporting the villain perfectly illustrates it.
