The Dark Knight Trilogy: 10 Best Villain Moments

7. "I'm Just A Dog Chasing Cars"

Speaking of manipulation, the scene where nurse Joker visits the bed-ridden Harvey Dent in Gotham General Hospital is the perfect example of Nolan's take on the iconic villain. Sure he tells Two Face that he's not a schemer, he has no grand plan - he's just a dog chasing cars and wouldn't know what to do with one if he caught it - but this entire speech is designed to encourage Dent to take revenge on Gordon and the GCPD, to take Gotham's White Knight and bring him down to Batman and Joker's level. If the revolver was loaded, then Joker might just have been crazy enough to risk his own life on the toss of Dent's coin. On the one hand I like to think it was, and Joker is that unhinged. On the other hand I like to think it wasn't and that it's yet more manipulation. Joker says he's not a schemer, but it's a joke - he orchestrated the bank heist, his own capture and imprisonment in the MCU, the ferry-hostage situation and more. He's a mastermind criminal and we can't believe a word he says, after all - we still don't know how he really got those scars. And finally, having Joker dressed as a nurse feels like something right out of the comic books.
