In the lead-up to production, Bale was put through a series of screen tests to ensure he was the right actor to play Batman.

Wearing an old Batman suit (the one worn by Val Kilmer in 1995's Batman Forever), he gave a short performance to show Nolan what his interpretation of the character might look like, and the actress who performed opposite him was none other...

...than Amy Adams.

According to casting director John Papsidera, Adams' involvement was merely a "favour", so it doesn't sound like she was actually in the running for a part in the film.

The actress would later join the DC universe properly in 2013's Man Of Steel, playing journalist Lois Lane. She then appeared opposite Batman - the Ben Affleck version - in 2016's Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice.
