The Death Of Superman Review: 5 Ups & 6 Downs

4. It's Faithful To The Source Material

If you're a long-time follower of DC animation, you might remember when the highly-anticipated Superman: Doomsday was released back in 2007 and left many fans disappointed by how loosely it adapted The Death of Superman comic.

Thankfully, this new film is a far more faithful attempt to bring the beloved arc to the big screen, with Liu even smartly adapting some of the comic's panels to the screen largely wholesale.

What's perhaps most impressive is that the film stays true to the soul of the decades-old comic while also reinventing the story in the vein of the current DC Animated Movie Universe, which launched in 2013 and takes significant cues from the continuity of The New 52.

While the movie is incredibly far from perfect, it deserves praise for ably bringing the source material to the screen without too many of the offensive affectations that have plagued recent DC animated movies (namely The Killing Joke).
