The Disaster Artist: 10 Biggest Book Omissions
7. The Crew Changes
Given his star power and close friendship with James Franco, it makes sense that the source material for The Disaster Artist would be slightly tweaked to give Seth Rogen's character, Sandy Schklair, The Room's script supervisor, more screentime.
In reality, however, Schklair did not see the production through. Credit where it's due, he gave it his best for as long as possible, but eventually he took his leave after being given another job offer, being refused a director's credit for The Room, and just generally being sick of Tommy Wiseau.
Something similar happened with Raphael Smadja (played by Paul Scheer in The Disaster Artist) who was The Room's first director of photography. After he was fired after constant conflict with Wiseau, he was replaced by a young DP named Graham Futerfas.
At first it seemed like Futerfas could handle Wiseau, but he too was broken down by him and also left the production. Finally, Todd Baron was brought in to finish the job.
The fact that Sandy and Raphael were not present when the last scenes of The Room were being filmed was briefly mentioned, but the details of their departure and the volatile nature of The Room's crew were not.
