The Expendables 3 Review: 10 Things That Sucked

2. No Expendables Die

Considering the title of this franchise, it's surprising how few of the Expendables have actually died. Though Gunner (Lundgren) nearly bites it in the first movie, the core group all survives, and in EX2, the only major good guy casualty is the murder of Billy the Kid (Liam Hemsworth) at the hands of Jean Vilain (Jean-Claude Van Damme). EX3 isn't much different, for despite the hospitalisation of Caesar, once again, none of the good guys die. While we'd never expect the likes of Stallone or Statham to be killed off, we desperately need one or two of the supporting characters to die in each movie. Without this fear of death, the action scenes have absolutely no tension whatsoever, and refreshing the line-up a little in each movie will also prevent it from feeling too stale. As long as they don't kill Arnie. That would really, really suck.
