The Expendables 3 Review: 10 Things That Sucked

4. Terrible CGI

The Expendables movies have never exactly featured incredible visual effects, and were frequently criticised for their abusive use of CGI blood. Still, the previous movies have nothing on EX3, which is basically a slideshow of the worst visual effects modern Hollywood has to offer. From the helicopters that look like they were pulled out of a PS2 game to one hilariously awful parachute deployment effect and unconvincing explosions, EX3 does not look like a movie that cost $90 million. Now, there's certainly an argument to be made that an Expendables movie doesn't need stellar, state-of-the-art CGI to succeed, and in fact crappy CGI can even add a little charm to the movie, but here it goes beyond accentuating the 1980s style to making EX3 feel like a sloppily-assembled bargain basement flick. Truly, a lot of what we see here is destined to end up in a list detailing the worst CGI of 2014 (and perhaps even the decade).
