Fantastic Four: 10 Things That Could Save The Reboot

5. Don't Rush Mole Man

Sometimes a casting choice is just knocked out of the park: Ledger as Joker, D'Onofrio as Kingpin, and Stewart as Charles Xavier come to mind. Tim Blake Nelson will likely tackle the role of Harvey Elder in such a way that it will be hard to think of anyone else playing the part. He has the look and the chops to be the quintessential Mole Man. The payoff with Elder becoming Mole Man will be the slow burn. Having Elder as a part of the Storm/Richards research team allows us to develop some investment in a secondary character before transforming him into an (likely second tier) antagonist. Harvey Elder is a brilliant but awkward scientist. While the FF are busy fighting (and the audience busy watching) more prominent ne'er-do-wells, Elder could be deviously plotting behind the scenes while presenting himself as an ally. By the time he makes his big reveal as Mole Man, Elder can come across as a real threat and not just a subterranean nuisance.
