Fantastic Four: 10 Things That Could Save The Reboot

3. Capitalize on Influences

Director Josh Trank has been open about his admiration for David Cronenberg and how his body of work has influenced the look and feel of the FF reboot. Trank has even used the very Cronenberg-affiliated term "body horror" in reference to the transformation of the primary cast into enhanced beings and the psychological effects of this transformation. With no offense intended to Chris Evans, his "Whoa, cool" take on the character lacked the sadness and frustration that would realistically come with such a life-altering experience. Trank's choice to give the film a Cronenberg feel offers some real promise. In the trailer, we can see that the Quantum Gate bears a stark resemblance to the Brundle Telepods from Cronenberg's The Fly. If all this gives us a reliable glimpse of what's to come, then the new Fantastic Four might just be awesome.
