One of the more interesting rumours about The Fantastic Four was actually started by Mark Millar, who is contracted to advise not only on that film but also the X-Men franchise. Ever since he was brought on as creative consultant he's apparently been making waves about Fox making their own cohesive superhero world, ala the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To that end he heavily hinted that The Fantastic Four would take place in the same universe as Fox's X-Men films. He has since clarified that he meant they took place in the same world, but there wasn't actually any sort of Avengers-style crossover planned. Since then, series producer and screenwriter Simon Kinberg totally contradicted him by pointing out that wouldn't make any sense. Surely the Fantastic Four would be hated and feared as mutants are? Or mutants shouldn't be hated? Smart man.
