The Gentlemen Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. Michelle Dockery Delivers One Of Ritchie's Best Female Characters

Guy Ritchie's films don't historically feature many prominent or well-written roles for women, who are typically either relegated to eye candy parts or "fridged" to further the male protagonist's own story.

Thankfully The Gentlemen features one of the best female characters in any of his movies, with the brilliant Michelle Dockery playing Mickey's wife Rosalind.

Far more than a doting moll glued to Mickey's arm, she's an actualised character in her own right, lent plenty of spunky personality by Dockery, who plays wonderfully against-type here.

Ritchie could've ultimately done even more with her overall, but it's still a solid step-up given his general disinterest in potent female characters in most of his works - especially his gangster flicks.
