The Gentlemen Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

3. The Awesome Ensemble Cast

If Hugh Grant runs away with the movie, there's mercifully not a weak link among the shockingly distinguished ensemble cast.

First up, we have Matthew McConaughey, whose mere presence in a new Guy Ritchie gangster film is odd enough, and one to which he brings his usual suave, seductive charms.

But McConaughey is easily overshadowed by many of his co-stars, not least Grant but also Colin Farrell, who is hysterical in a small role as a foul-mouthed Irish boxing coach simply named "Coach."

Charlie Hunnam is also reunited with Ritchie here, playing the quietly pissed off Raymond with an amusing reserve, while Henry Golding shakes off his heartthrob label as ambitious gangster Dry Eye, and there's even a small role for the fantastic Eddie Marsan as a sleazebag tabloid editor.

The casting is an embarrassment of riches all around, and without such an enthusiastic roster of actors, the movie wouldn't be nearly as entertaining as it is.
