The Good Dinosaur: 22 Easter Eggs & References You Probably Missed

8. Deliverance

It might not be entirely conscious - and there's certainly nothing as vividly disturbing as the rape scenes - but there's definitely a feel of Deliverance about Arlo's fear of going into the wild and his subsequent meeting of seemingly backwards wild folk. Both the Pteranodons and the raptor rustlers bear all the hallmarks of city-folk hating yokels: the first lot have scary religious beliefs and are painted as cannibals (despite other types of meat-eating being totally fine) - much like the Texas Chainsaw gang - and the raptors literally have mullets and buck teeth. Though the film draws the line at direct comparisons, the same anxieties (and the prejudices they inspire) are still very easy to spot.
