9. The Blue Mountains
In The Hobbit, the dwarves come from the Blue Mountains, a region to the west of the Shire. This area also holds elf lands, and beyond it lies the Grey Havens, from which the elves depart Middle Earth for the undying lands. We hear much of the Blue Mountains in the books, but never really see them. In fact, this is second on my list of Middle Earth regions Ive always wanted to know more about (the first is Rhun, far to the east of the Lonely Mountain). Since Jackson is adding so much to The Hobbit, it would be great to see the dwarf cities in the Blue Mountains. It wouldnt have to be a lot, maybe just a scene of the dwarves leaving in the movies opening. This would make many Tolkien fans happy, and also further connect the events in the films to the broader Middle Earth universe.
