The Incredibles: Is The Sequel Better Than The Original?

5. Family Dynamic

In 2004, Brad Bird spent an entire movie developing a family with fleshed out characters and relationships that audiences everywhere fell in love with. This allowed the sequel to jump straight into the story without having to introduce anyone, even Tony Rydinger.

From the outset we get to see the Parrs fighting together as a team, which is something we didn't get to see until the latter stages of the first movie, and while the family dynamic is stronger from the beginning of Incredibles 2, we still get to see every member of the team grow as an individual.

In fact, every single Parr had a new role to play. Bob and Helen swapped as main and supporting roles, Violet grew into a more confident hero and somewhat of a leader, and while we didn't see masses of Dash's powers in use, he was utilised to great effect as comic relief, the way only a pre-teen can. We got more of the same of Jack-Jack as well, but more on him later.

This character growth is exactly how a sequel should work, taking the base set in place by the first movie, and building on top of it, strengthening our ties with the characters, and their relationships with each other. Incredibles 2 captured this perfectly.
