The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Remake: 13 Actors Who Should Be Cast

9. Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson - Hyde

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Reboot
HBO/DC

The most interesting prospect for the upcoming film reboot is how they handle Hyde, just as the Avengers film-makers had to wonder about the best use for Hulk. He seems a fairly one-note character - an irredeemable monster with a hatred of his antithesis - but that's a fairly reductive reading of him.

But even ignoring the complexities of his less celebrated side (his intellect and dark charisma were hinted at in Jason Flemying's performance of the character), you really have to get his look right. That might see Fox choose to go with CGI, but that would be wrong.

Who Should Play Him?

If you're looking for someone to play a monster, you should probably look for the biggest, most physically threatening man possible than Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson. And given that he has already been considered imposing enough to play The Mountain in Game Of Thrones, he should probably be top of the list.

While the CGI Hyde in the original film wasn't actually terrible, it would be far better to have a practical effects mix that makes the performance more grounded. Some might suggest Fox could just bring in Andy Serkis and mo-cap realism in, but it's far more interesting to do something smarter and less costly so the film-makers don't have to decide only to use the monster in set-pieces for the sake of cost.
