The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen Remake: 13 Actors Who Should Be Cast

8. Ben Whishaw - Carnacki

Like Raffles, Thomas Carnacki was envisaged as a counterpoint to Sherlock Holmes, adopting the supernatural explanations that Conan Doyle only ever used as red herrings. He's basically a less cynical Agent Mulder in Victorian times.

Oddly, the ghost finder was never really considered a compelling character himself before being added to the League - it was more the worlds built in his stories that appealed - but he's an intriguing element of the league, and offers significant possibilities for future supernatural stories. He might also be a key element in actually bringing the league together, given his background as a detective.

Who Should Play Him?

Whishaw has that slightly ethereal air to him that suggests he'd be comfortable making friends in the occult (the same sort of appeal that made Daniel Radcliffe a good fit for The Woman In Black). There's also the fact that in Q, he's played an important side character who offers balance and support to the main figures, which is essentially what he'd need to do as Carnacki.

Most importantly, he's also a British actor enjoying an increasing profile, and he'd add some acting chops to the mix.
