The Lego Batman Movie: 10 Reasons It's Better Than Snyder's Batman
5. It Doesn't Take Itself Seriously, At All
While the DCEU up to this point has been all about taking itself dead-seriously and basically being the tonal opposite of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Lego Cinematic Universe is much more content to rib itself into oblivion, chuckling at its own absurdity all the way to the bank.
There are even some hilariously meta gags about the stupidity of Suicide Squad's plot and the ridiculousness of Batman and Superman fighting one another, something the DCEU really fails to embrace, instead treating it all like it's Shakespeare and soldiering on regardless.
This isn't to say that serious superhero cinema is inherently bad: Nolan's The Dark Knight pretty much created the blue-print for the intelligent, serious-minded comic book movie with a sprinkle of humour, but Snyder and the creative side of the DCEU seemingly lack the finesse to pull it off.
The Lego Batman Movie alternatively goes in the other direction and, with its willingness to embrace the silliness of Batman, makes audiences less likely to call into question dubious plot points and motivations. BvS is meanwhile so obsessed with divorcing itself from the campier aspects of the Dark Knight's lore, much moreso than Nolan's trilogy, that it forgets to have any real fun at all.
Fingers crossed that the apparently much lighter Justice League movie will nudge things in the right direction.
