The original Disney Ursula’s design was based on legendary drag queen Divine, most famous for her shocking John Walters movies Mondo Trasho and Pink Flamingoes. With the success of RuPaul’s Drag Race catapulting drag into the mainstream, Disney would do well to tap into drag culture yet again.

Ursula was never out and out evil, and it would be a mistake to play her too villainous. Ginger could keep things camp and charming while selling the dark underbelly beneath.
