The Lone Ranger: 10 Things You Probably Didn't Know

10. Who The Hell Is He?

Lone Ranger So who exactly is The Lone Ranger? The Lone Ranger started life in January 1933 (also known as the olden days) as a show on a Detroit Radio station. It ran for over 20 years until September 1954 and amassed around 3,000 exciting episodes. Following its hugely successful radio run The Lone Ranger hit television with his very own 1930s movie series, a popular TV serial that ran from 1949-1957 as well as countless other successful mediums including video games, comic books and standalone movies. The premise of the show was simple. Six Texas Rangers led by Captain Dan Reid, set out to hunt the notorious Butch Cavendish Gang. Unbeknownst to the Rangers they were being led into an ambush and killed - but for one lone survivor Dan's younger brother John Reid. Badly injured but clinging to life Reid is rescued by a Potawatomi Indian named Tonto who nurses the injured law man back to health. Once Reid is back at full health the pair team up to hunt down the fiendish Cavendish Gang but this time Reid dons a funky mask and a disguise to protect his identity. Thus The Lone Ranger was born. Unlike all previous Lone Ranger projects though the upcoming Johnny Depp project is the first version which the actor playing Tonto receives top billing over the masked hero.
