There are many famous swords throughout Middle Earth. Glamdring, Orcrist, Sting to name a few, but perhaps none are more famous that Anduril, the blade given to Aragorn, as the rightful king of Gondor. Anduril is perhaps the most special sword in the whole of Lord of the Rings.

Also referred to as the Flame of the West, the sword was reformed from the Shards of Narsil; the blade that defeated the dark lord Sauron at the end of the second age.

Not only is Anduril a pretty massive and imposing sword, the power of its massive influence cannot be overstated. Aragorn, wielding this sword, was able to command a legion of the dead into holding up their oath to him as king, and fighting for him. As a result, the legion of the dead helped save Minas Tirith from the invading armies from Mordor.

As the sword of the king, it's essentially Middle Earth's Excalibur. Oh and if that's not enough, when Aragorn brandished Anduril before the Eye of Sauron, the dark lord was taken aback.

Yup, this is the sword that Sauron fears.
